The Australasian round of the Maazel/Vilar Conductors' Competition is being presented in partnership with the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Sydney Sinfonia, the mentoring orchestra of the Sydney Symphony. Eight young conductors, ranging in age from 26 to 36, will gather at the Conservatorium to take part in comprehensive auditions leading the Sydney Sinfonia. Lorin Maazel will rehearse and prepare the orchestra on August 23, and the eight participants will conduct the ensemble in repertoire assigned by the Competition Saturday through Monday, August 24-26.
These auditions on August 24-26 will be held at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music's Verbrugghen Hall from 10:00am-4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, and from 4:00-10:00pm on Monday. They will be free and open to the public.
