Bundit Ungrangsee, Thailand Age 31Born in Thailand, Bundit Ungrangsee began studying classical guitar as a teenager. Inspired by a performance of the New York Philharmonic in Bangkok, he entered the University of Wollongong to pursue a B.C.A. in Music Composition, while studying orchestral conducting under Henryk Pisarek. He then earned his Masters of Music in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) under Gustav Meier and Kenneth Kiesler. In 1995 he was the youngest participant in classes taught by Yuri Temirkanov and Myung-Whun Chung in Siena, Italy. He was a semi-finalist at the 1997 Besançon Competition, a winner in the 1999 International Competition for Young Conductors in Lisbon, and a finalist in the 2002 Hungarian TV-Radio International Conductors’ Competition. In 1998, he was awarded the Leonard Bernstein Fellowship to study conducting at the Tanglewood Music Center, working with Jorma Panula, Seiji Ozawa, and Andre Previn. He has been Music Director of the Debut Orchestra in Los Angeles, Assistant Conductor with the Santa Rosa Symphony Orchestra (California), Apprentice Conductor with the Oregon Symphony Orchestra, Associate Conductor with the Utah Symphony, and is currently Associate Conductor of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. |
