Natalia Luis-Bassa, Venezuela
Age 35

Born in Caracas, Natalia Luis-Bassa graduated from the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Musicales (IUDEM), where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in music, majoring in orchestral conducting. She was the first person in Venezuela to receive a degree in this field. While assistant conductor for opera at the Teatro Teresa Carreño in Venezuela, she was appointed principal conductor of the Orquestra Sinfónica de Falcón. In 1995 she went on to complete her postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Music in London. She held the RCM Junior Fellowship in Opera Conducting from 1997 to 1999, and since January 2000 has been principal conductor of the Imperial Collegium Musicum in London. In April 2001 she was invited to conduct the Bombay Chamber Orchestra in India.
