At the conclusion of the Competition, prizes will be awarded to any or all of the finalists on equal footing, at the discretion of a distinguished international jury chaired by Lorin Maazel. Each conductor chosen as a Maazel/Vilar Laureate will then participate in a comprehensive fellowship program directed by Maestro Maazel at regular intervals over a two to three-year period following the Competition. Among the many components of the training offered to Maazel/Vilar Laureates during this time will be opportunities to work with Maestro Maazel and other esteemed musicians on technical and musical preparation, to rehearse orchestras under Maestro Maazel's supervision, to study new repertoire and languages, and to address the administrative dimensions of a conductor's activities.
The prize for each winner will also include a cash award of $45,000 and a series of professional engagements with symphony orchestras.
